Kathy Rosa's love for music began as a child with her family “jam” sessions around the piano. She began lessons at 6 years old. In high school she competed regularly in the Southwestern Youth Music Festival where she won several awards. It was during her teens that she began teaching young students piano through her teacher’s school, Miller Music School in Hollywood. She attended Santa Clara University and Sonoma State University, receiving her Bachelor in Music and then a Teaching Credential in Music. In her studies she specialized in music in the young child and music/ brain research. Her thesis work on the effects of music on the brains of children, convinced her of the importance of regular, routine music experience in the life of a developing child.
She took this passionate belief to the Rincon Valley Union School District where she developed her own curriculum and taught music for nine and a half years in its eight schools. She won a teaching award while at Rincon Valley. In 2005 she left that district and has been teaching private and group lessons ever since. Kathy’s five children are grown and she misses the joy of little ones around the house, but feels lucky to have an extended family of children in her students!
